What comes to your mind when you think of monsters? Scary, threatening, ugly? Forget all your preconceived notions, and think… cute! In our latest deviantWEAR Design Challenge, we’re asking you to create an amazing t-shirt that features a monster of your own original design that’s quirky, cute, and all-around lovable. Unleash your beast – the cute version!

:star: Participation is easy!

You come up with potential designs for our deviantWEAR t-shirts.

Deviants vote on their favorite designs.

Judges choose 3 winning designs: 2 designs based on the highest-voted submissions and 1 design from ALL of the Entries to the Challenge.

Artists of the winning submissions get cash and their designs printed on t-shirts for all to see!

This time around, we're challenging you to design a Cute Monster t-shirt that represents the essence of "cute." Think of a design that is endearing, delightful, humorous, and charming. "Cute" is the anti-monster – something that brings a smile to your face. This contest is not about gore or macabre. If you saw a Cute Monster under your bed, you’d want to hug it instead of shrieking in terror. The adorable possibilities are endless!

For more inspiration on the deviantWEAR Design Challenge, check out the Cute Monsters Contest Category!

:star: Prizes, prizes, prizes!

Three winners will be selected!  Each winner receives $1,500 cash and 20 units of their t-shirt! Plus, each of the winning designs will be sold in deviantWEAR. Who knows? You may see your cuddly t-shirt worn by the masses.

:star: Not a designer?

Just like the last Design Challenge, you still have a chance to make an impact and determine the future of deviantWEAR's designs without being a designer.  All throughout the Challenge, keep an eye on the Cute Monsters Contest Category.  To keep things fair, we'll show you a random assortment for you to browse through the submitted designs.

If you see a design that would make a great shirt, click "I Would Wear This" on the deviation to cast your vote for the entry. View the entries!

:star: Worried about cheaters?

Fret not.  When the contest is over, deviantART will review the source of all entry data (including but not limited to username and IP data) for suspicious activity and remove fraudulent votes.  Also, just because a design has the most votes doesn't mean it automatically wins.  The 50 designs receiving the most votes will move to the final judging round, where our panel of experts will pick two of the most adorable Cute Monster t-shirt designs to produce. There will be one additional finalist selected from all of the entries to the Challenge, not just the semi-finalists.

But hurry! The deadline for entries is February 28, 2012, and voting ends on March 6, 2012. Submit your designs and cast your votes now!

:aww: Don't delay!

:star: Click here to get started!  And be sure to read the Official Terms for all the technical details.

I can see that this type of question has been asked a few times now. I am not asking if they have picked yet, just when abouts I should be glued to DA. An answer like "About the 3rd week of April" would be good enough for me. or maybe if you guys edited the top with that of answer people would stop bugging you in posts. just trying to be helpful.

Well hopefully this will get you there.

If not remember it is just another page of the deviantWEAR journal same as this is. deviantWEAR is the profile/user page they have given to this department and the journal feature is how that department currently makes announcements. Hope that helps!

Since no one in the know seems to read/answer these posts I don't think they are bugged! XD

I would just check the deviantWEAR journal pages once a week until you see your answer among them.

I think the funniest thing about no one reading these posts is that apparently the new contest that is being run now (8-Bit) is telling people to direct their questions to this blog. You and I are the only ones who are actually answering questions since the admin that was running this thread bailed a month ago.

I guess they want us to continue to volunteer to do their jobs for them. ^ ^;

Yeah, there were some cut and paste errors creeping into their pages and links before so this doesn't surprise me. I am not planning on answering questions that do not pertain to a contest I am at least a part of in some way. It would seem kind of Brainy Smurf to do so! XD

And there is no way I am entering a contest I can't win like the 8-Bit. Only two vote based prizes and no third judge only option. Don't have any knowledge of or interest in 8-Bit as an art form anyway.

Looks like most folk have found the page or are leaving the link permanently in their messages section since there are almost 2,000 comments there and only a rare few bewildered sorts coming here. Sadly having passed by the links to the answers to their questions on the way.

You are a good person for directing traffic for the site! :D

No. This question has been answered several times on this blog. They just recently announced the winners of the Retro contest so chances are there will be a few weeks before any news is announced.

I would just like to know where we can place our designs on the sweater? Anywhere?
For example, are we allowed to put designs on the front pocket or hood?

Oh wait... you're on the wrong blog, this is the Cute Monsters blog. You need to go to the 8-Bit Blog page.

I'm sure that they would answer your question in the "technical guidelines" of the rules section.

There is an error in the 8-bit Contest Terms & Conditions. The title that explains about the Semi Finalists of the contest, it says There will be THREE semi-finalists selected, but then below it it says there will be TWO semi-finalists.
Just making sure it's corrected to what it is supposed to be.
Thank you and All the best,
Zachary

For those of you not checking deviantWEAR's main page the winners of the LAST T-shirt contest, Retro Future, have been announced. This doesn't mean a whole lot to you I'm sure but I find it a somewhat heartening sign of forward motion. They had different judges but who knows maybe it freed up some resources somewhere. An assistant or something? lol

Anywho since the rules and workings of that contest were similar to this one's I choose to see it as a good sign that the thing finally came to a conclusion.

Maybe we will get this contest wrapped up in only a month! It could happen... XP

K, I'm gonna go read all the comments on that page complaining that the winners of the Retro Future contest weren't good enough. Should help pass the time till we get our semi-finalists announced for the Cute Monsters contest! XD

These data is stored in a database, they don't count it by hand!
It takes less than 1 second to retrieve the result; unless they want to do some processing on the result; and in this case, th qustion is: why they should do that?!
I would be much happier if the ranking was not based on number of votes, becaue most people here just used social networking tricks, exchanging votes, inviting friends, etc to receive more votes and it's cruel.
But if it is solely based on the number of votes, just a database query can shows the result in 1 sec.

I agree, but I imagine someone is pouring through the pics looking at them in some degree. That was my point. That yes databases are good, but manual look-see is probably common on all of the contests and judges work as well.

A lot of people didn't follow the guidlines very well or submitted past end time and may need to be disqualified even thought they had the votes. And some of the folks with the next highest votes may also need to be sorted out for similar reasons. There also supposed to be checking for cheating somehow. This is just for the 50 semifinalists chosen by votes who will then be looked at again by the judges to find the first two winners.

Then we have the third winner who is not chosen by votes and skips the semi-finalist process. The third winner will be chosen by the judges looking through all of the 14,000+ entries. Since the third has nothing to do with votes there is no shortcuts. The third winner is a new thing they are doing to help balance out all the social networking crud. The amount of headache involved in this third one may be making them regret that decision by now.

I am not letting them off the hook entirely though. They still take a really long time to do things. They have had the semi-finalists for the Retro Future contest for a veeeeery long time now and still haven't chosen the winners to that contest. I don't know if they are choosing judges without enough time to give to these endeavors or what.

But compared to the Retro future contest entries we have just begun to suffer! lol

Thank you for your reply and the complete info you gave ;)
I really appreciate your respect.
And there is a complain: this voting system doesn't work at all! I think you already know this yourself. In this context, social networking is the most important trick to win; and also the time we submit our designs can effect our chance dramatically!
The first entries, have a better chance because of the longer time they have to receive votes, and last submissions have a higher chance, because more people can see their artworks; but poor middle submissions receive the least attention.
And if someone like me is a busy buddy, (s)he is doomed to loose the contest!
It is sad...

Yeah, unless you plan ahead for the social stuff those two prizes are probably lost.

I read the rules and thought about that before I entered.

Basically, if I hadn't read about how they were doing the third prize completely differently I wouldn't have bothered entering this contest.

I choose to see it like this. I entered a contest with only one prize. Its a long shot but still possible as long as one of the judges has to look at every single entry.

But yes I understand the frustration this system is causing people. I have read many many comments sharing your sentiment. Hopefully Deviantart will as well although I don't know what new system model they might use to appease the people and satisfy their original goals. It would help if I knew exactly what those goals were.
