Quit Work, Be A... Tweet
because your boss is a jerk or because you wanted to dedicate your time to something you're truly passionate about? That's the inspiration behind our newest project.
DeviantART has teamed up with a stellar production crew, some very talented actors, and some awesome deviants to create a series of short videos that we all wish could happen IRL. Watch above as our overworked, underpaid, and unappreciated employees quit work and show their bosses who they really are!
Not long ago, deviantWEAR reached out to the community asking deviants to create images for a new deviantART video.
We didn't say what the video was about but provided t
Apparel Collection: Art Not BombsThis shirt is best worn while making art with big gestural lines and fast rapid-fire marks. Get wild in it. Bring scribbles to your vectors, and put some geometry in your contours. Pow!
Since a young age, I have always been fascinated with flight. Growing up, my parents were good friends with a group of pilots. They specialized in cinema stunt work for movies. Every time I had the opportunity to go up in an airplane or helicopter, I took it. In the photo below, I'm in the center seat of a friend's helicopter. It was so fun!
As a youth, I would draw all types of planes -- jet fighters being the most exciting. Growing up on a healthy dose of Star Wars and G. I. Joe also fueled my love for flight. Other kids were infatuated with jets, too, and could rattle off all sorts of information about their technical aspects. I constantly checked out huge reference books from the local library because I was always more interested in drawing them than studying how fast they could fly or how much thei

Retro Future: The Future That Never Was!
Personal Hovercrafts? Vacations in Space? Eye-scanning billboards? For years, people have been fascinated by what life might look like in the future. Perhaps no era's imagery was as dedicated to visualizing the future as the time period spanning the 1940's-1970's. Many of the popular magazines and newspapers of the day devoted hundreds of pages to describing the great advances in science and technology that were always just around the corner. See the Popular Mechanics and Popular Science archives for yourself here and here. This fascination expanded well beyond print, moving into film (2001: A Space Odyssey), TV (The Jetsons), and even

CEA Blog: How to Submit an Abuse ReportHi deviants!
Today I would like to address an issue that unfortunately happens quite often in abuse reports filed to our support center. We've had guides and articles written about this in the past but we felt it was time for a refresher!
So what is an "Abuse Report"?
The Abuse Report category is where a deviant would file their ticket under if they are being harassed or was witness to someone else being harassed out there in our community. Not knowing where to go or what to do when this happens understandably only adds to the problem!
Before anything else, please remember that abuse reports are only for the most severe of harassment issues. Things like disagreements, debates, general rudeness one might experience due to the anonymity of the internet or personal drama you may have with another deviant are some minor issues that can be easily handled by taking advantage of our Hide and
Things are super busy at the moment. As you know, we've been recruiting for 2 new positions into the CEA Team for a while. After weeks of interviews, tasks and presentations, we've sent out offers to 2 deviants who will soon be joining the team. I have to say that this round of recruitment attracted the most amazingly high standard of applicants, and it was not an easy task to make our final decisions! Over 200 people applied for the positions and it was really inspiring to speak with so many people who have such evident ambition and talent within our community.
During the recruitment process, we gave the final round of applicants a task to make a presentation to us about what they felt was an appropriate piece of community outreach that the CEA should undertake. I was really impressed by all the ideas and I'm really looking forward to expanding upon some of the ideas to make them part of our regular CEA projects.
Harassment: A Survival GuideIt's no secret that the members of deviantART are an opinionated bunch! For good or ill, there is always plenty to say about art that speaks to them. This is great, yet amidst those opinions you're bound to get reactions that are nothing more than word pollution or troll bait. How many of you have logged into deviantART and been faced with this problem?
We've all seen it, been a victim of it, or at least heard about it: Folk out in the digital world living for nothing more than the joy of ruffling peoples' feathers. Well not to worry dear reader, because I've compiled a survivor's guide on how to slay the beast of text pollution: le trolls!
Identify The Problem!
Being the level-headed fantastical artist that you are, when it comes to outrageous claims and aggravating comments regarding your work it seems like common sense for you to set the record straight and reply to these virtual text hoodlums. I

Cyberbullying and Your DeviationsThe term "cyberbullying" was first coined and defined by Canadian educator and anti-bullying activist Bill Belsey, as "the use of information and communication technologies to support deliberate, repeated, and hostile behavior by an individual or group that is intended to harm others."
While the actions which make up cyberbullying can vary depending on who you are talking with or what website you are on at the time, as far as we here at deviantART are concerned the act of cyberbullying involves a range of behavior from hostile and aggressive communications, to threats, sexual remarks, hate speech, ganging up on victims by making them the subject of ridicule or humiliation.
The practice of cyberbullying is also not limited to children, when perpetrated by adults toward adults these same behaviors are sometimes referred to as cyberstalking or cyberharassment but regardless of what name you attach to it, cyberbullying has grown into an increasing problem since the behavior was first ident

Improved DMCA Reporting System
Hello, deviants! In an effort to keep the community informed and to provide the best possible experience for our members, we wanted to inform you of changes to our reporting system.
DeviantART is dedicated to protecting our artists, and in an effort to be able to more quickly handle complaints by deviants who have had their rights infringed on, we have changed the way we receive complaints from the artist or the copyright holder.
In the past, we took reports by the copyright holder in two different ways: An informal report via the Report Violation tool and a formal complaint via contacting the Help Desk. While both of these methods were effective, they presented many setbacks.
The informal report did not gather all the necessary information for a formal copyright complaint and was prone to misuse by well-meaning deviants who would attempt to report images they did not own the copyright to
My DeviantART StoryGosh, the beginning fired up way back when. I think it was 2002, and I was at the tail end of high school learning that you didn't use your real name on the internet (according to my boyfriend at the time).
I've had this account and this username for ever evah, and DeviantART was my 'home base' to share my anything and everything. I can't think of another community I liked better than this one when it came to just being immersed in art that I liked. Hell, even challenged my concepts of what art should be! I was dazzled by the idea way back when, but even now, being able to put something out there and have it be seen by dozens (or even hundreds!) of fellow deviants across the globe still fascinates me. I was introduced to tons of fandoms and made lots of friends along the way solely based on commenting and deviation submissions, and that's nuts. To think that's all it takes to make a connection with someone halfway across the world.

The Intrepid Quest of Kevin Eastman,
Defender of the Comics Realm
It’s a shame that most comics enthusiasts prowling the San Diego Convention Center during Comic-Con 2011 mostly or even only know Kevin Eastman as the co-creator (with Peter Laird) of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, not that being one of the authors of one of the most celebrated comics phenomena of all times would not be laurel enough for any creative artist to retire well-rested upon.
While the fan-beloved TMNT juggernaut still rampages along unabated, there’s quite a bit more to Kevin’s biography that deviants should be aware of – especially when wondering how much difference one lone artist’s efforts can make in building a better arts environment for all who would follow in his path.
Kevin was one of the band of independent comic book artists and writers who in 1988 authored the Crea

last week was only an aftershock
of the earthquake you were before.
this place used to vibrate
with metal strings and melodic,
testimonies to life,
emitting coffee-scented moods
and the burn of it too.
i had memorized the
sounds of silence,
i couldn't help but relish it.
no longer had i known
the sounds of folk
and scent of mocha-
you became nothing more
than an echo of the laughter
i so desperately needed to hear again.
then the echoes got louder,
bouncing ferociously off the walls
to be made manifest
i walked into your room
expecting exactly what i found-
an unmade bed,
and an empty beer
(the one that you insisted you needed
just days ago).
i pressed my nose
into the pillow
for incense and cologne and starbucks
to penetrate my mind
and thinking fervently
i already know
what a clean sheet smells like."
how strong an aftershock can be,
